Carter, 21, currently leads the Rangers during the postseason with a 1.236 OPS through 28 plate appearances.

Texas Rangers left fielder Evan Carter celebrates with designated hitter Mitch Garver after a 2-0 win over the Houston Astros in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series on Sunday, Oct. 15, in Houston. After just four starts above the No. 9 spot in the lineup, Carter could be hitting in the high-profile third spot Wednesday

It makes sense. You want your best hitters to get the most plate appearances. Carter, 21, currently leads the Rangers during the postseason with a 1.236 OPS through 28 plate appearances in the team’s first seven games. The only potential drawback to having Carter hit behind Corey Seager is that both are left-handed and it could create an advantageous situation for an opposing left-handed reliever. Houston, however, does not have a lefty to use.

into the troublesome No. 3 spot for the Division Series against Baltimore. That was partly to sandwich right-handers around Seager. Carter ended up moving from the No. 9 spot to fifth in the balanced lineup. The Rangers don’t have to worry about creating balance though against Houston.. The Rangers had started Grossman, a switch hitter, in left field against Valdez and hit him third. The minute Valdez came out of the game, Carter replaced him. He was 0 for 2 with a walk in the No. 3 spot.
