Peter Tobin: Serial killer dies, aged 76
Peter Tobin is serving three life terms for the murders of Angelika Kluk, Vicky Hamilton and Dinah McNicolTobin was convicted of raping and murdering Polish student Angelika Kluk, 23, and hiding her body under the floor of a Glasgow church in 2006.
Det Ch Supt Laura Thomson, head of major crime, said: "Our thoughts are with the victims of Peter Tobin, their families and friends. said the murderer had cancer and had fallen and broken his hip. It said he was refusing food and medication.Tobin had been transferred from HMP Edinburgh to the city's Royal InfirmaryIn February 2016 he was taken to the Royal Infirmary by ambulance after he reportedly collapsed in his cell.
Both girls remains were found 16 years later, buried in the garden of Tobin's former home in Margate, Kent.Lindsay Brown said Peter Tobin robbed her whole family of the life they could have had with her sister Vicky Hamilton. The Hamilton family posted a statement on social media saying they would not be celebrating Tobin's death.It said: "We remember Vicky, we remember her laughter, her smile and we want to keep that memory after all the years of having no idea what had happened to her, followed by heartbreak of losing our mum not long after Vicky went missing."If he has taken more victims, our hearts go out to their families and can only wish one day they get the closure they so badly deserve.
They were only found after Tobin killed again. His murder of Polish student Angelika Kluk in Glasgow was followed by a nationwide police inquiry which led eventually to the back garden in Irvine Drive in Margate.Without a body, there could be no funeral, no grave to visit, no prospect whatsoever of anything remotely resembling closure, if that's ever possible in such cases.
