PAW Patrol adventures will continue.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie, based on the beloved 2013 series from Keith Chapman and Scott Kraft, is a sequel that expands enormously on the previous movie. The titular pups, led by Ryder , continue to protect their city but this time are aided by meteor crystals that spread superpowers throughout Adventure Bay.
Can I ask when and how it was decided that the mighty pups and superpowers would be the theme of the sequel? Cal Brunker: I can't speak directly to where we're heading next, but if you look at what they've done with the show over many years, they have this great way of playing with different – I hate to use the word – genres within the show. One of the seasons or partial seasons will be a spy pup kind of thing, and another one will be superheroes... I think one of the great things that the series has done is establish some flexibility there.
Bob Barlen: Yeah, I think that the nice thing is with the theatrical format, we have such a bigger sandbox to play in. For us, that's more spectacle and making something that is a big enough movie that makes people go to the theater. I think it's safe to say any movie with Bob and I involved is going to lean that way, in terms of exploring a single character at the core. While there'll be everything else around it for sure, those are the type of stories we love to tell and we think that we can connect with an audience most strongly with.
The reveal of Liberty's power in the second act is kind of an important part of the story. Did you guys play with any other ideas for that character since she's original for the films? The junior pups were a super fun addition to the film, but what really stuck out to me alongside that is when they're putting on their costumes and Ryder makes note of Chase. His costume's not fitting right because he's getting bigger; he is getting older. And now you have the junior pups. We're 10 years into the Paw Patrol franchise, of course.
Cal Brunker: Yes, definitely. Two things. One, it was Skye's story. She flies a jet and we thought what could be better than an aircraft carrier in terms of really making it feel like her story and what would be home for somebody who flew a jet. So, that was very early on something that we were excited about. And then from a vehicle design perspective, the beauty of working with Spin Master is that they are themselves a toy company as well as an entertainment company.
