Sunday’s opinion section featured two opinion pieces both worthy of a careful read, though for very different reasons. First and foremost, the paper's editorial staff put together a broad, balanced and highly informativeon our current gas prices. Using facts to identify multiple contributing variables that interact, the editorial flies in the face of conservatives' dumbed down/simplistic polemic “it's all Biden's fault” trope.
,” : Sen. Cornyn’s column is right on the mark. Gas has surged to $4 a gallon in Texas and nearly $6 in some other places. Inflation is at a 40-year high. Europe could be cut off from needed gas supplies during winter. And it could tank our economy. More concerning is that the world may be at its highest point of danger, maybe ever. Russia has the biggest nuclear arsenal in the world and Putin is apparently unbothered by his forces attacking hospitals and shelling nuclear reactors.
How does the administration respond? Continuing with its fantasyland domestic energy policies while begging OPEC to pump more , trying to resurrect the Iran nuclear deal with Russia’s help and reportedly looking to soften sanctions on Venezuela. As Sen. Cornyn correctly points out, the answer lies in domestic energy production, with the energy capital of the world — Texas — leading the way. Our economy and the world’s security depend on it.
