Opinion: A GoFundMe allowed us to cover the Aztecs' historic run in Houston as student journalists [Opinion]
are graduating seniors at San Diego State University and are The Daily Aztec’s co-sports editors. They live in the College Area.
In our four years at San Diego State University, we never imagined our basketball team making it to the National Championship or, better yet, imagined us covering it courtside for our student newspaper. I, Morgan, created the fundraiser on March 28 with absolutely zero expectations. I couldn’t decide between setting the goal of $1,000 and $1,500, but I settled with $1,500 because why not shoot for the stars? I planned for a two-hour runtime with the intention of closing the fundraiser then, simply because I wanted to sit at my laptop and monitor the donations.
The following day, our team spoke, and after the incredible reception and encouragement we received from donors, we re-opened the fundraiser for two more hours. $690 from eight more donations ensued as well as two Venmo donations just after the fundraiser closed.
