Why Stephen Silas feels 'really good' about the Rockets after two dismal seasons
Yi-Chin Lee/Staff photographerThat was not so bad. He liked what he saw. And in more than two decades of coaching in the NBA, he never had so many members of a team’s roster gather for voluntary workouts through the summer. Or as he put it: “Never. Never, never, never."
This is still an extraordinarily young team, filled with players starting their careers — ambitious, hungry and with a long, long way to go to escape the NBA’s cellar or realize their individual potential. “I feel good,” he said. “I feel like the team is connected. I feel like they are motivated. They are talented and competitive. The last couple years, at this time of the year at least, there’s been question marks around the group, whether it was the situation the first year with trade speculation or the situation the second year with John Wall.
“We’ll talk about the structure of things, what worked well in the past, what can we change, practice, practice times, the structure of the weight room, training room, player development,” Silas said. “Then obviously, we’ll get down to the nitty gritty when it comes to the offense and defense, transition, special situations.
