New York firefighters rushed to put out up to 10 fires in Central Park on Tuesday that were suspected to have been an act of arson.
The infernos were first spotted at the park around 1:20 p.m. New York Fire Department spokesman Jim Long told the New York Post they were small brush and rubbish fires. A total of 60 members of FDNY fought the flames and got them under control by 3 p.m.Footage of the firefights reported by a local CBS affiliate showed the FDNY putting out the flames in Central Park with a water hose. No injuries were reported in connection to the fires.
Witnesses told police they saw a man setting a fire in the afternoon near the west side of the park, law enforcement sources told NBC 4. The sources also said police are looking into whether the fires the FDNY fought could be linked to a separate fire apparently set in Central Park earlier in the morning.The FDNY has not mentioned the fire on the social media accounts and did not respond to the Washington Examiner's request for comment.
