Michael Luko Sr., an off-duty police officer, was driving home from work when another vehicle struck his head on.
, 31, was driving west on the White Horse Pike in Mays Landing June 19, 2020, when she entered the oncoming lane and struck a vehicle driven by Michael Luko Sr., an officer who worked for the New Jersey Human Services Police Department, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Luko, 53, of Mays Landing, was taken to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center – Mainland Division, where he was later pronounced dead, authorities said. Luko was also a former Egg Harbor City police officer.Authorities charged Bell more than a year after the crash with vehicular homicide and assault by auto, officials said. Bell pleaded guilty to both charges on May 26, authorities said.
An Atlantic County judge, Dorothy Garrabrant, sentenced Bell to seven years in state prison for vehicular homicide, according to the prosecutor’s office. Bell was sentenced to another five years state prison for aggravated assault on another victim, Chanelle Morgan, who was a passenger in Bell’s vehicle at the time of the collision, officials said.Our journalism needs your support.
