CIUDAD DE MÉXICO (AP) — El presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador objetó el martes la solicitud de Estados Unidos de establecer en México centros de procesamiento de migrantes, similares a los que se acordaron con la vecina Guatemala para recibir a los extranjeros mientras tramitan sus solicitudes de visas temporales de trabajo y refugio.
Al rechazar la propuesta de Washington, López Obrador dijo en su conferencia matutina que era partidario de que los centros de procesamiento operen en los países de donde provienen los migrantes, y refirió que el tema se discutirá en la cumbre que se realizará el 22 de octubre en la localidad sureña de Palenque, estado de Chiapas, donde se espera la participación de los presidentes y cancilleres de 11 países latinoamericanos.
En la nota diplomática, el gobierno mexicano solicitó a Washington restablecer el flujo comercial que se ha visto interrumpido por el cierre de operaciones de carga en el puente Córdoba-Las Américas desde el 18 de septiembre y el cierre del puente de Piedras Negras-Eagle Pass desde el 20 de septiembre, así como el cierre del cruce peatonal de El Chaparral-San Ysidro desde el 14 de septiembre.
