ssac White tried working a regular job once, at Toys R Us, when he was a teenager in Fifth Ward. He lasted all of two days.
Before White, now 33, was playing for the Harlem Globetrotters or touring with NBA legend Darryl Dawkins, though, he was just a kid from Kelly Courts, sneaking out to shoot hoops and playing on J. Prince's youth team. It was there that White was dubbed Sir Issac, because he played"like an old man," he says — ironic for a guy who now makes a living throwing himself alley oops off the backboard.
Dawkins, or Chocolate Thunder, came to be known as one of the NBA's most formidable dunkers during his heyday in the 1970s and 80s playing for the 76ers and the Nets. He took the young White under his wing and brought him to slam dunk showcases around the country. That led to a stint for White with the Harlem Globetrotters and various other semi-professional teams in the 2010s.
His large following has secured him sponsorship opportunities with Ball is Life and Li Ning, a Chinese basketball shoe company, along with a steady stream of invitations to appear at celebrity games, dunk contests and showcases.
