Will Council call a bond election?
In 2019, residents voted to approve a $350 million general obligation bond, which included five propositions for general uses. About $140.63 million is left for the city to use.
If Council appoints a bond committee — made up of members of the community — staff will work with them to help establish recommendations. The bond committee would look at the details of the unfunded projects and recommend to the council an amount of money and the types of projects that that money should be spent on. Council would ultimately deliberate and decide how much the bond would be.
The most expensive parks and recreation project includes $60 million for a new multi-generational facility that would be a multi-purpose recreational use center: “It’s not just a fitness center, civic center, senior center… it’s all of those components in one general facility,” Minyard said.
