The Republican-led House Judiciary Committee is set to hold a 'field hearing' next week examining Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's tenure in office, days after former President Donald Trump was indicted by Bragg's office on fraud charges.
Other members of the committee include Manhattan Rep. Jerrold Nadler , the former chair, who led the first impeachment proceeding against Trump, and Rep. Matt Gaetz , another staunch Trump defender. While Nadler's spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment, Bragg's office took to Twitter to call the hearing a "political stunt."
"This hearing won't engage in the actual efforts to increase public safety, such as supporting national gun legislation and shutting down the iron pipeline," Bragg's office wrote in aBragg has been a consistent target by Republicans at various levels of government. The indictment of Trump led Republicans to increase their attacks on Bragg, the first Black Manhattan district attorney.
