In fact, he has been nominated for the Defender of the Year award. Wagner has managed eight assists in 33 league appearances, helping Union to top the Eastern Conference, ensuring they qualify for the Conference semi-finals, facing Cincinnati on Thursday. Wagner is one of only three defenders up for the award, along with Philly teammate Jakob Glesnes and New York City FC’s Alex Callens.
The 25-year-old’s excellent form will surely push his market price up, but he should be an accessible target for Leeds should they decide to make a move this winter. Wagner is actually out of contract in December, but Union have an option in his deal to extend by one year, something they will more than likely do in order to secure a fee in January, when the MLS season will be completed.
