"I think it's part of every Hispanic's DNA. You come to this world knowing what ‘La Usurpadora' is," Castillo says.Estrada, whose onstage credits include"Chicago" and"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, said he was drawn to the opportunity to make a musical film set in Mexico."Other than Bollywood, you don't see a lot of musical movies right now. The film will be there forever, and you can watch it all over again," he says.
Tejano icon Selena does make an appearance in"La Usurpadora" through song."Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" is one of several ‘90s Latin pop classics performed by the cast. Grammy winner Sebastian Krys oversaw song selection and helps put a fresh spin on familiar lyrics. "I'm Cuban, and to sing ‘La Vida es un Carnaval' and to sing ‘Mi Tierra' – these two women are so iconic in any Cuban's life, and they represent so much. I couldn't believe what I was doing."Estrada and Castillo, as the good twin, team with"RuPaul's Drag Race" star Valentina for the film's 11 o'clock number, a thrilling mashup of Ricky Martin's"Vuelve" and the Ana Gabriel/Vikki Carr duet"Cosas del Amor.
