Former sex crimes prosecutors explain why it took so long before arrests were made in a case of child sex abuse at a local church.

Former Sex Crimes Prosecutor Maryanne Sheils explains how difficult it is to prosecute cases like this. News4JAX asked former Sex Crimes Prosecutor, Rick Alexander, why a raid of the church was required. “The raid can corroborate victims’ stories,” Alexander said. When asked why it took so long, Alexander said “It’s the nature of the abuse and the abuser and the power that they have? Over that small set of people? And it’s insidious, but it’s out there.”
