Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel traded their late-night hosting duties as an April Fools' Day prank.
The studio audiences attending each broadcast were not told about the switch, according toFallon has had some fun fooling audiences before. In 2018, he and Stephen Colbert used the same opening segment onreported. Those segments showed the two hosts and Conan O’Brien poking fun at former President Donald Trump and some of the terms he used to describe various late-night hosts, according to the entertainment site.
When Fallon came out for the monologue on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” he teased, “Hi, I’m Jimmy,” before telling the cheering studio audience, “Settle down, you’re going to offend the other Jimmy.” Fallon referenced the Will Smith slap of Chris Rock during last weekend’s Oscars, noting that “For surprises on ABC this week, this one’s a distant second,” and confessing that he was entering the “late-night multiverse.”The Hollywood Reporter“I love that we did this -- I can’t believe we pulled it off,” Fallon said. “Jimmy and I wanted to have some fun with people mixing us up all the time.”
