Exclusive: Screen Rant presents a clip from The Burial which showcases strong on-screen chemistry between Tommy Lee Jones and Jamie Foxx.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Burial is a star-powered dramedy inspired by true events. The film was directed by Maggie Betts as her third feature-length effort, and is her best-reviewed project to date. Betts also co-wrote the film with Doug Wright, a playwright and screenwriter who won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a Best Play Tony Award for his 2004 play I Am My Own Wife.
Prime Video’s new film boasts an impressive cast led by Jamie Foxx, Tommy Lee Jones, and Jurnee Smollet, with supporting players including Elemental’s Mamoudou Athie and Succession’s Alan Ruck. Screen Rant is excited to share a clip from The Burial, which features a touching moment between Tommy Lee Jones’ Jeremiah O’Keefe and Jamie Foxx’s Willie Gary. Take a look at the clip below:
The Burial’s Rocky Journey To The Screen The Burial is a movie based on a true story, but the source itself is older than one might expect. The film is loosely adapted from a 1999 article of the same name written by Jonathan Harr and published in The New Yorker; the piece discussed a 1995 Mississippi court case in which $500 million was awarded to a funeral home owner over a breach of contract.
Even as recently as 2018, Academy-Award-winning filmmaker Alexander Payne was in talks to direct The Burial. Clearly, that didn’t pan out, with Betts taking over the role. Given the strong reception the film has enjoyed, it seems like things have worked out for the best—at least for Betts, her co-writer Doug Wright, and the rest of the cast and crew. Ultimately, it’s a win for viewers that, after all these years of uncertainty, the film adaptation of The Burial has finally surfaced.
