Her mysterious symptoms included a loss of taste and smell, OCD tendencies — and an intolerance to beer.
Donna Marshall was shocked to be diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease at the early age of 44 – and one of her more bizarre symptoms was an intolerance to beer.
“The sense of smell went first of all, I was about 26,” she told South West News Service. ”I didn’t think very much of it, and with that you get a lack of taste in food.” Donna Marshall first began having symptoms of the disease when she was 26. Her mom also suffered from Parkinson’s: “They fed her through a feeding tube, which looking back at it is the worst thing that could have happened to her. She remained alive only through medical intervention, and then the decision to take that tube away sat on us as a family, which is just the worst thing anyone had to do.
Marshall was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease nearly 16 years after experiencing her first symptoms.Marshall is seen here with her partner, whose name has been withheld for privacy reasons. “I think the best thing I did was connecting with people like me, who have young onset Parkinson’s,” she said, “because it’s a different animal to when you’re older, it manifests itself in a different way.
Dystonia is a painful disorder that causes the muscles in your body to move without your control, according to“I can’t walk at all, I can’t even put one foot in front of the other,” she said. “The hardest thing for me is not being able to follow a normal lifestyle. So just a normal everyday things that you would normally do is is difficult for someone with Parkinson’s.”
