The burden that women face of ensuring their own safety is an unfair reality.organized by the Irving Police Department last month that gives young women a host of skills to navigate the threats in the real world. Around 25 girls ranging from ages 12 to 18 from around the Dallas area attended the camp where they learned self-defense strategies and received rape aggression defense training.
Ricardo Garza, a certified RAD instructor, helped organize the Girl’s Conference. He said that the camp was a proactive effort by the Irving Police Department rather than a response to increased complaints by young women in the area. The conference addressed the subject of sexual assault with care knowing that some of the girls are as young as 12, he said.Using the RAD framework, which is an international standard, the conference taught girls to have situational awareness.
