After six years serving as its executive director, Amanda Arbour has announced her departure from the LGBT Center of Central Pa. She remains at the center until the end of the year. “I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity to lead the Center’s impactful work, and I am so proud of all that we’ve accomplished together over the past six years,” Arbour said in a written statement. “I have learned so much from the amazing staff, board, and community members I’ve worked alongside, and I am confident that the center will continue to do even more life-changing and life-saving work under its next leader.
“Our LGBTQ+ communities are under attack, and transgender youth in particular are feeling the brunt of it,” Arbour told PennLive in June for a. “We need to fight like hell to ensure that LGBTQ+ have nondiscrimination protections, like passage of the PA Fairness Act would provide in Pa., and we need to fight back against the school boards across the Commonwealth which are passing dangerous anti-trans policies that are causing harm to transgender youth.
“Amanda Arbour’s compassionate and steadfast leadership has left an indelible mark on the LGBT Center — even prior to the creation of our new home,” said Wallace McKelvey, co-chair of the board of directors. “I’m grateful for the time I spent working alongside Amanda, and for the solid foundation she leaves behind as the center continues this essential work.”
