There will be no school for Glenbrook South High School students Friday after a small fire broke out in the wood shop.
The fire prompted a large response, with multiple firefighters and a slew of firefighters rushing to the scene. There were no reports of any injuries, but all activities at the school are canceled for the rest of the evening.
"You don't really think that you're going to have an actual fire situation or fire evacuation, and everyone was kind of making light of it, but it was a little scary," said student Kylar Kreske. In a note to students and parents, school officials said classes are also canceled Friday in the aftermath of the fire. The building remains closed and no one can collect their belongings. Officials are asking students not to come to the building as they will be turned away.
School officials also said no homework will be due until classes resume and AP exams will be rescheduled. "And it just feels a little surreal considering I'm going to graduate in two weeks, and now I might not be in school for a few days," Kreske said. "It makes me feel good about all the fire drills we've had to do because I do feel like they prepared us."Copyright © 2023 WLS-TV. All Rights Reserved.
