When Barkley did get up, he walked with a noticeable limp, creating major doubt about not only his status for Thursday night’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, but also for the long term.History alone makes Barkley’s ankle injury a concern. He missed three games with a high right ankle sprain in 2019 and four games with a left ankle sprain in 2021.
Like the rest of the offense, he could not get untracked in the first half, carrying the ball seven times for 24 yards and catching four passes for 12 yards as the Giants fell behind 20-0 while managing just 81 total yards.He powered his way into the end zone for the Giants’ second score of the afternoon, closing the Cardinals’ lead to 28-14.
With linebacker Krys Barnes closing fast, Barkley leaped head first and touched the football to the right pylon for his second touchdown of the day.Barkley, who finished with 92 yards from scrimmage on 23 touches, picked up five yards just ahead of Jones’ 11-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Hodgins that tied the game at 21-21 with 4:29 remaining.
But two plays before Gano connected from 34 yards out, Barkley went crashing into the right side of the line and was hit from behind by Barnes before landing awkwardly on his right ankle.
