Gerard Butler’s lawsuit regarding the profits of his 2013 action thriller Olympus Has Fallen has been settled ahead of the 2024 trial date.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Olympus Has Fallen star Gerard Butler has settled his lawsuit regarding alleged withheld profits from the 2013 film. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, Olympus Has Fallen stars Butler as Secret Service agent Mike Banning, who must protect the President after a force of heavily-armed terrorists storm the White House. The movie was a hit, grossing over $170 million worldwide, spawning two sequels.

Now, per THR, Butler's Olympus Has Fallen lawsuit regarding the movie's profits has been settled. Specifics of the agreement were not disclosed, but, under his contract, Butler was entitled to box office bonuses, 6% of domestic revenue, 2% of foreign revenue, and 10% of the film's net profits. Butler's lawsuit alleged that both Nu Image and Millennium Media hid over $11 million in profit from the film, in addition to misrepresenting domestic revenue figures.

Will Butler Return To The Has Fallen Franchise? After saving the President once in the first film, Butler returned as Banning to save a host of world leaders in London Has Fallen in 2016. The actor most recently reprised his role for Angel Has Fallen in 2019, which sees him on the run after being falsely implicated in an attack against the President. While London Has Fallen improved on the box office performance of the original, raking in $205.

Although the latest sequel saw diminishing returns at the box office, there are plans in place to continue the franchise with Butler as Banning. It was announced in 2019 that three additional movies are in development, the first of which was officially titled Night Has Fallen in 2020. Angel Has Fallen director Ric Roman Waugh, who has also collaborated with Butler on Greenland and Kandahar, is expected to return to helm the upcoming installment.

Unfortunately, however, there's been relatively little information released on Night Has Fallen since it was first confirmed in 2020. Speaking to ComicBook.com earlier this year, Butler reiterated that the movie was still happening, saying that they had a script with a "fun idea," but that it needed further development.
