New records have been set in Trenton and Atlantic City, tied in Newark, according to preliminary data
Preliminary data from theshows Atlantic City and Trenton have set new records for the coldest high temperatures ever seen on March 28, and Newark has tied its record for its coldest high on this date.
The temperature at Trenton Mercer Airport remained below freezing the entire morning and most of the afternoon, and is expected to continue dropping Monday night, the National Weather Service said. Its highest reading of the day was 32 degrees — three degrees lower than the previous record-coldest high of 35 degrees on March 28, set way back in 1919.
At Atlantic City International Airport, the temperature climbed to a maximum of 38 degrees Monday afternoon, one degree colder than its previous record-coldest high of 39 degrees for March 28, set in 1996, 1959 and 1956, according to preliminary data from the weather service. At Newark Liberty International Airport, the highest reading Monday afternoon was 35 degrees, which tied the record-coldest high at that location, set on March 28 in 1937.
Keep in mind, New Jersey’s normal high on March 28 is 55 degrees, so temperatures Monday afternoon were running 15 to 24 degrees below normal. On top of that, gusty winds made it feel even colder, and occasional snow showers andAn unseasonably cold air mass will get reinforced tonight as temperatures fall into the middle teens to lower 20s, with the wind making it feel about 10 degrees colder much of the time into the morning commute on Tuesday.
