With the end of Fear the Walking Dead, gone are the days of near-decade juggernauts; the new era of the walker-filled universe will be told in smaller, more contained bursts.
I think the struggle for Strand is going to be one that he often finds. He is a character who has changed so much over the course of the series, and who has constantly reinvented himself. That has engendered a lot of mistrust in all the people around him.
That’s why when he reunites with Madison, it's such a complex, loaded moment. He loves her so much, but she also represents his past, and she's someone who can expose him for who he actually is, and that’s what he's been running away from for so long. It threatens to upend this very delicate ecosystem that he's built for himself here.
Ian Goldberg: We loved Dwight and Sherry as well, and have been huge fans of that relationship, and of Austin and Christine's performances in those roles, since The Walking Dead. A lot of their story, now that we've brought them over to Fear, has been very much playing on their past together, and what that means for them; those days in the Sanctuary, what being underneath Negan’s thumb did for both of them, and how it ripped them apart.
Andrew Chambliss: I think as we approached the end run and knew that we were going to be crafting the landing place for all these characters, it was important to us that everyone felt really comfortable about where the characters ended up. We had conversations from the beginning of the season, as we were developing the story, with various cast members, so that we knew we'd all be on the same page when we got towards the end. So, there were ongoing conversations that we had.
