Operation Medusa took down Snake, a malware built by Russian intelligence unit to infiltrate high-value targets around the world.

Russian malware built by an FSB cyber-intelligence unit compromised hundreds of computers around the world until it was disrupted by U.S. and international law enforcement, the Justice Department said.

Federal law enforcement built software that would remove the malware and neutralize the computers behind it, according to federal charging documents. A unit within Russia's Federal Security Service, or FSB, successor to the Soviet-era KGB, developed and deployed a malware codenamed Snake as far back as 2004, a federal search warrant request

The software was able to record every keystroke a victim made, a capacity known as keylogging, and send it back to Turla's control center.
