IndyCar CEO says, “I would never say never.” But don’t hold your breath.
“It’s not something that anybody has had conversations about,” Miles said. “I would never say never. But again, I’m not sure how that works. And unless we raced with them in Brazil or someplace, because they have the three events they want in this country, I don’t have any reason to expect that they want to add IndyCar to any of those three, the same weekend.
“And I don’t see us going to Europe or Asia during our championship. So I think it’s highly unlikely, but I wouldn’t consider the idea unfriendly. We’d have to see if all the pieces fit together.”IndyCar is also exploring holding a non-points paying event in South America, most likely in Brazil. If or when that might occur remains to be seen.
“It’s likely to be a special event after the end of the championship,” Miles said. “We’re talking fourth quarter of the calendar year, which of course, is their summer in the Southern Hemisphere. “The timezone matters. We don’t want to race in some place where it’s not an enviable time from a North American television point of view. So you want to be kind of in the Western Hemisphere, where you're there basically in one of our US time zones.”, with IndyCar and Formula 1 competing at the same venue on the same weekend?
