The veteran NHL defenceman is set for the sixth edition of his Ethan Bear Hockey Skills Camp next week at Ochapowace Nation.
And Farwell brought the idea up again, at Bear’s end-of-season exit meeting.
“It’s just to give them an opportunity, really, that I never had. To have a First Nations NHL player who was close to home teach him things, get to know them over a week, show that I care, show that what they’re doing is important and fun,” he said. “Even when he first came here, he went out to Muckleshoot, to speak with the people there. Our PR staff said he was always so good at making an impact.”“What was really obvious to me was how his whole community had rallied around him,” Farwell said.
He has added young locals to the coaching staff, like his cousin Connor Bear, who is set to join the Calgary Hitmen this fall, and his little sister Tori, who plays for RINK Academy in Winnipeg.
