Shootings have been trending downward on Cook County expressways over the past few years. But that is not of much comfort to those who live nearby or those who take the expressway.
-- A man was killed and a woman was wounded in a shooting late Tuesday morning on the Eisenhower Expressway.
As CBS 2's Tara Molina reported, the police investigation after the shooting caused a traffic mess – with the road blocked off for hours. Illinois State Police said shortly after 11:45 a.m., troopers responded to reports of a shooting in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 290 near Cicero Avenue. Bullet holes were left in a silver Lincoln sport-utility vehicle – which was surrounded by police and first responders. There were three bullet markers on the road.A woman refused treatment at the scene on the Eisenhower, instead getting herself to the hospital with injuries.
This was the 41st shooting on Cook County expressways this year. That figure is down from 64 in the same timeframe last year.
