After weeks of staying out of the fray, Disney CEO Bob Chapek weighed in on Florida's"Don't Say Gay" bill.
As one of the most prominent companies in Florida, Disney has faced some pressure from employees and advocacy groups to opine on the issue. Chapek's comments came after he attended a meeting with a"small group of Disney LGBTQ+" to discuss the controversial bill last Friday. He noted in the letter that a common theme in the meeting was disappointment that the company did not take a stronger stand.
Since taking the reins as CEO in 2020, Chapek has seemingly attempted to steer Disney away from political entanglements in order to give the company a more neutral public image. He has concerns that the company might be viewed as too liberal, a source told the Hollywood Reporter. This approach contrasts with his predecessor, Bob Iger, who publicly chastised the bill on Twitter.
