Deshaun Watson hopes that the passing game comes alive vs. the Steelers.
In a postgame interview with his quarterbacks coach Quincy Avery, Watson revealed that he gripped the ball too hard to compensate for it slipping it out of his hand, and also that he cramped up during the game and had to have IVs at halftime.live stream. “My arm was locking up and my calf was locking up. It was my first full game.”
Watson, who played either indoors or mostly in mild weather during his four seasons in Houston, acknowledge that he overcorrected Sunday and squeezed the rock too tight to keep it from slipping out. “It factored on both sides,” Watson said. “It wasn’t just the Cleveland Browns passing game. It was the Cincinnati Bengals passing game, too. Both sides were having problems with the weather. It was very, very wet, so the ball was heavy. So yeah, sometimes the weather factors in and you’ve got to change your game plan, but hopefully it’s clear skies on Monday night and we can really get the offense going and throw the ball around a little bit.
He mostly gave him a pass for failing to connect twice on deep balls with Marquise Goodwin, and plans to keep firing away. “So guys have got to block one-on-one, guys have got to step up to the challenge and be able to do that. So it’s a great task. But, yeah, you got to give his flowers to No. 90.” It’s helped Watson — and will help Jones this week — to have Garrett and Za’Darius Smith screaming around the edge at them down after down in practice.
