DE QUEEN, Ark. - A De Queen educator receives top honors from the state of Arkansas.
"I have the privilege and honor of naming the 2024 Teacher of the Year and it's your teacher," said Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders.McCastlain is the De Queen High School TV Production teacher and the district's communications director. He was selected for the award out of 34,000 teachers across the state.
McCastlain will now travel the state as a representative for teachers, and will serve as a non-voting member on the state board of education. "It really shines a light on our district as well. Any success I have is because of our Leopard family. I'm a by-product of what we have here and our people," said McCastlain.
McCastlain also received a $14,000 award sponsored by the Walton Family Foundation. He is now eligible for the National Teacher of the Year award.
