Ukraine's targeting of the bridge is 'part of making Crimea untenable, unusable for the Russian military,' retired Lieutenant General Ben Hodges told Newsweek.
The Kerch Strait Bridge that connects Russia with annexed Crimea, which has twice been struck by Kyiv's forces, has become a significant security burden for Moscow, Britain's defense ministry has said.The bridge is a key supply route for Russia's forces and Moscow's sole land link with Crimea, the Black Sea peninsula annexed by President Vladimir Putin in 2014.Ukraine struck the 19-kilometer road and rail bridge in October 2022 and again in July.
officials said, it is now 'almost certainly a significant security burden requiring multi-domain protection, including the use of air defence systems and crews who would otherwise be deployed elsewhere.'The defense ministry added: 'Russian security forces' confidence in their ability to protect this large and vulnerable structure will continue to be threatened by the ingenuity of Ukraine's military and security services.
