He’s pushed the organized-labor envelope before.
All of this raises the question of whether Biden — who wants the UAW’s endorsement for his 2024 reelection campaign — might take the remarkable step of visiting a picket line., saying only there was “nothing planned” currently and noting the president was in New York for much of the week.
But if the strike drags on, or expands, expect to start hearing more questions in the White House briefing room about what additional shows of support the UAW can count on from Biden, up to and including visiting a picket line or a rally.If Biden decides to take that momentous step, it won’t be quick. He’s in New York for the big annual United Nations gathering and won’t be back at the White House until Wednesday night.
