Director John Carpenter's movie Christine strayed pretty far from the Stephen King book the horror was based on, but that's not a bad thing.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT While Christine changed many details of Stephen King’s original novel, director John Carpenter’s killer car horror movie did keep the engine of the story intact. Adapting a book to the screen can be a delicate, difficult task. Some authors hate to see their stories altered, even if these changes arguably improve the plot and its characters.
7 Arnie’s Parents Are Worse In The Stephen King Novel In King’s novel, Arnie’s parents are so controlling that they are borderline abusive. In the movie, they are a little worrisome and overprotective but mostly normal. This was a wise change since Arnie is badly bullied in both versions of the story and his life could have been a bit too miserable for viewers if both his parents and his peers were relentlessly mean to him.
4 Darnell Is A Criminal In Stephen King’s Christine Novel Darnell is a relatively heroic character in Christine’s movie adaptation, with the supporting star trying to warn Arnie about Christine’s magical powers before he is killed. However, his book incarnation is very different. He uses his garage as a front for a smuggling ring, Arnie smuggles cigarettes for him and gets arrested and, later, Darnell is arrested for tax evasion.
