As the news on the anticipated trading of Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson enters another day, one team has been eliminated as a potential landing spot. The Browns were informed they are out of the running, according to multiple reports, which leaves the Saints, Falcons and Panthers as teams who have submitted trade offers and met with Watson. Texans general manager Nick Caserio has been asking for multiple first-round and second-round picks, plus perhaps a package of players in exchange for the three-time Pro Bowler, who must waive his no-trade clause for a deal to be struck.
The Saints appear a front-runner. The franchise met with Watson for a second time on Wednesday night, New Orleans holds the No. 18 and No. 49 in this year’s NFL draft and has been a frequent trade partner since Caserio was hired last year.NFL teams began pursuing Watson after a Harris County grand jury declined indict him following a criminal investigation that was triggered by 22 women who filed civil lawsuits accusing him of sexual assault and harassment during various massage therapy sessions.
