President JoeBiden vowed to respond if Russia deploys chemical weapons in Ukraine as Russian President Vladimir Putin signals he is prepared to use every weapon in his arsenal.

"We would respond if he uses it. The nature of the response would depend on the nature of the use," he told reporters in Brussels, Belgium, Thursday. Biden repeated it would be a"response in kind" during a press conference convened after talks with NATO and the G-7. He used the platform to announce the United States was prepared to"commit $1 billion in humanitarian assistance to help get relief to millions of Ukrainians affected by the war in Ukraine.

"We will invest $320 million to bolster democratic resilience and defend human rights in Ukraine, and neighboring countries are also coordinating with the G-7 and the European Union on food security, as well as energy security — more to say about that tomorrow," he said. Biden and the White House have reiterated the president's overarching goal of the four-day trip, which includes stops in Warsaw, Poland, is to present a united front against Russia as the Ukraine conflict enters its second month."Putin was banking on NATO being split,” he said."NATO has never — never — been more united than it is today."
