Beachwood City Council approved Monday (Oct. 2) legislation that would have the city continue a deer management program it began last year in partnership with the city of Shaker Heights. Shaker Heights City Council will consider the legislation this month.

Published: Oct. 03, 2023, 12:00 a.m.

The two cities will cull a total of 70 deer, the same amount as last year. A year ago, Beachwood and Shaker Heights each paid $60,000 for the service, and this year will pay $70,000 apiece. Beachwood City Council passed the legislation by a narrow 4-3 vote, with Councilwomen June Taylor and Danielle Shoykhet, along with Councilman Joshua Mintz, opposing.

Isaacson noted that just over seven in 10 residents supported culling in the city’s April and May survey on the subject. Roenigk , has been working as a Beachwood building inspector since November, 2022. He has worked in the construction field for more than 39 years and has 17 years of building department experience, including serving as assistant building commissioner in Strongsville until 2022.
