Atascocita competes in the Class 6A boys 400-meter relay in the Class 5A boys 400-meter relay during the Region III Track & Field Championships at Turner Stadium, Saturday, April 29, 2023, in Humble.The Atascocita boys track and field team won the District 21-6A meet, Area 21/22 6A meet and captured the Region III-6A championship.
“It’s not easy to get out of the Houston region because it’s really fast,” Atascocita coach Todd Symons said. “These are very talented young men. That makes them special, and they work hard, which even makes them better. We want to win state. Our goal at the state meet is to try and medal in every event. We always talk about enjoying the journey and that’s what we need to do this weekend.”
The Eagles will compete in the 4x100 and 4x400 relay events while Jackson Norris will compete in the long jump, the only field event for Atascocita. Fontenot made sure things went differently at this year’s regionals as he and teammates Wazell Wright, Tory Blaylock and Darrell Gill finished second to punch their ticket to state.
