'Hey hey, ho ho, homophobes have got to go' and 'we fight for gay rights' were the chants coming from student protesting.
Within the first hour of the petitions' creation it has gained 293 signatures with a goal of 500.
Off campus, a march was being led by two seniors and a junior: Nya Vidal, Nicholas Lloyd and Ella Monk. Vidal, 18, who identifies as bisexual, said she was shocked when she first heard about the bill but at the same time wasn't too shocked. Hutchinson, who also identifies as bisexual, said the bill takes away a student's ability to confide in their teachers about topics of sexual orientation or gender identity without the fear of a legal challenge from parents."This bill is helping to see distrust between students and teachers, which is just going to lead to bad places when it comes to classes, grades and trust with authoritarian figures in general," Hutchinson said.
