Louisiana cornerback Trenayvian “Trey” Amos announced Monday evening he had entered the the NCAA transfer portal, and tweeted less than an hour later that he he had received a scholarship offer from Alabama.

Amos has since reported offers from Florida, Miami, Michigan State, LSU, Ole Miss, Illinois, Auburn, Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Arkansas and Michigan. A senior this fall, Amos has two seasons of eligibility remaining because of the NCAA’s COVID-19 waiver for his freshman 2020 season.

Alabama has a need in its secondary after losing a pair of cornerbacks, Jahquez Robinson and Trequon Fegans, to the transfer portal during the April 15-30 window for undergraduates to enter it. The status of freshman defensive back Tony Mitchell is also uncertain as he facesThe Tide is replacing four starters in its secondary after losing safeties Jordan Battle and DeMarcco Hellams, star Brian Branch and cornerback Eli Ricks to the NFL this offseason.

Amos, 21, was a three-star recruit in the 2020 class who chose the Ragin’ Cajuns over Tennessee, Southern Miss, Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech and ULM. He attended Catholic High in New Iberia, Louisiana. He played in 11 games as a reserve in 2020, then made his first start during his sophomore season in 2021. Amos’ lone interception in three seasons came as a freshman.Sunday, with Alabama joining Ohio State, Florida State, North Carolina, Oregon and Ole Miss.
