Neighbors described the man who died in the fire, 61-year-old David Polefko as “a goodhearted man and wonderful neighbor.”
BARBERTON, Ohio - A community is shaken after a devastating house fire, and despite desperate efforts from neighbors, a man didn’t make it out alive.Michael Hodgen was his next-door neighbor and says when he heard a loud bang and found out his neighbor was trapped, Along with another neighbor, they tried their best to save him.
The victim was found unresponsive just inside the front door, where the flames were the most intense. “He would always be the one to look out for the residents if we were ever going out and about,” Hodgen said. “He would just say let me know he would keep an eye on the house. It wasn’t the nosey neighbor, it was the good neighbor.”
